M.A., International Relations, University of Missouri

Professional Background

Just after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the opening of Eastern Europe, Steve became the first American scholar to work with the Political Science Department at Charles University in Prague in the former Czechoslovakia. During his time in Prague, he developed and implemented an innovative research project that compared different local governmental forms in the Czech and Slovak Republics, and correctly predicted the dissolution of the country based on the results.

In addition to his political research work, Steve’s background as a professional photographer has enabled him to play a unique role at FTA for more than seven years, documenting the activities of a broad range of clients and issues ranging from child care to health care and the environment.

Steve’s photographs were featured in a book celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford and have appeared in U.S. News and World Report, Newsweek, and Essence.

At FTA he has the opportunity to combine research skills with documentation experience in projects ranging from the Albany waterfront to child care policy.
