Professional Background

Originally from Idaho, Michelle developed her passion for working with people while a student at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. There, she held a number of student leadership roles and provided support to fellow students through programming that encouraged student engagement on and off campus.

Prior to joining Fern Tiger Associates, she spent five years as the shelter manager and peer counselor at a small organization providing services for homeless young adults in Berkeley (YEAH!, Youth Engagement, Advocacy, Housing!). While at YEAH!, she was able to build a broad set of skills necessary for assisting in the day-to-day operations of small, but vital community-based programs. And there, her passion for advocating for those experiencing homelessness and supporting communities to make positive change grew.

Michelle brings a keen understanding of youth, organizational leadership, and social change to her work as a member of the team at Fern Tiger Associates. As the Office Manager and Executive Assistant, she is responsible for keeping the office operating smoothly and providing assistance on projects as needed. And as the first person to meet guests, she also makes FTA a welcoming environment.
