Professional Background
Prior to joining Fern Tiger Associates, Becca worked for a wide variety of organizations, including a history museum, a small-town weekly newspaper, a liberal arts college, and a global association of women’s foundations.
Becca started her career in New York City, where she was a development associate for the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. Along with writing foundation and government grants and reports, she gave weekly public tours of the museum - a 19th century tenement with five restored apartments. When she left New York for a quiet life in Western Massachusetts, Becca found work at a weekly newspaper. As a reporter for The Advocate Weekly in North Adams, she traveled almost daily across the state border into Vermont to find stories. As the paper’s copyeditor, she scrutinized grammar and cleaned up sentences.
In 2003, Becca moved across the border to Vermont to become the senior writer/editor for Bennington College. She wrote and edited the alumni magazine, as well as website and admissions materials. A college view book, made up of her interviews with a dozen students, won a Gold Medal from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education in 2004.
Becca returned to her native California in 2005. As grantwriter for the Women’s Funding Network, a San-Francisco based association of more than 140+ global women’s foundations, she helped secure millions to support women-led social change.
To deepen her reporting and writing skills, Becca returned to school and, in 2008, she earned a degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley. Her master’s thesis on new treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder earned her the Wired Magazine Award for Excellence for Reporting on Technology/New Media Issues.
Becca brings a range of writing experience to Fern Tiger Associates, as well as her interest, and skills, in conducting deep research and long, fruitful interviews.
